Venue

Car-parking: The car park should have enough spaces available. The main car-park will be open from 6.20am on race day. If you leave before the end of the event, take car of cyclists and runners still on the course…..they take priority!

Registration and race briefing: Registration is open from 06.35 to 07.45 and will be inside the leisure centre. Race briefing starts at 07.45 will be by the front doors.

Bike racking: All the bike racking is numbered to correspond with individual race numbers. Please place your numbered sticker on your bike before entering transition. Helmets and bikes need to meet BTA standards. Visit www.britishtriathlon.org for the rules. Please keep your area tidy.

Swim

No diving is allowed at anytime. You will be disqualified (DQd) if you do.

The swim is over 200 meters and each competitor will swim two lengths in each of the four lanes. After swimming down the first length from the far side of the pool’s shallow end, next to the wall, swim back up by the lane rope (anti-clockwise). At the end of this length, go under the lane rope into the next lane and repeat. Continue this until you reach the shallow end of the nearside of the pool. Exit via the fire exit, turn left and go to Transition (T1). Caution, the poolside will be slippery when wet. There is 30m or so to transition on concrete paths and 5 steps going up to transition, so extra care should be taken on wet, exposed feet.

Swimmers with the slowest estimated swim times going first. There is a gap of 20 seconds between each competitor. If you catch up with the swimmer in front, please let them know by touching their feet to let them know that you are there. The person in front should then allow you to overtake once you get to the end of the length.

G.P.Tri club members taking part will start either first or last. This is to assist you and us with running the event and giving them the chance to take part too.

T1

Mind the curbing around the outside of the pool building and steps into transition.
Once you have arrived in transition, put on your cycle hat and fasten it before removing your bike (see BTF rules). Ensure your race number is on your back so we can record your time when you start the cycle section. The mounting point will be marked with cones. This area will be marshalled. Keeping left when you go up to the entrance and be carefully there maybe runners coming passed you from the right at the entrance of the Leisure Centre. Do not forget there are cars coming down as well.

Bike route

http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-kingdom/uckfield/651124016104237869

You are about to join the highway so the Road Traffic Act (RTA) will apply to you. Failure to follow the RTA may result in a Disqualification. All turnings are marked throughout the course, it is your responsibility to follow these, with help from the marshals.

When you come out of the transition area there are four speed bumps before you get to the entrance of the leisure centre.

At the entrance, turn left onto Downsview Crescent and then first left where you will be head down to a T-junction. Here there is a compulsory stop and foot down before you turn right onto London Road. This is for your safety and that of other road users, there will be a member of Sussex Police here to ensure all competitors adhere to this.

500m down London Road take the right fork following the route markers, being careful of oncoming traffic. You will come to a crossroads with traffic lights, turn right onto the A272 towards Buxted. Update: If you get caught by the traffic lights, which are on a 40 second timer, you will be credited with 1 minute. So if you’re unfortunate enough to get caught on all three times you get to the lights, you’ll lose 2minutes but be credited back with 3minutes. This is to take into account the loss of momentum and clipping feet back onto pedals etc. Failure to comply with traffic lights is an instant DQ, so it is not in your interest to jump the lights.

1km down the road turn left into Hurstwood Road, this junction will be marked but be careful as it is a fairly sharp turn.
2km along the road turn left into Rocks Lane. This turning is on a step down hill and has a sharp bend, so please slow down or you will miss the turning. This will be marked. Hurstwood Road and Rocks Lane are undulating; narrow country lanes so take care of oncoming vehicles.
At the end of Rocks Lane you will come to a T-junction where you will turn left onto the A26, this is a main road so the traffic will be travelling fast. Give way sign in place and we hope to have a marshal present too. 1km down the road turn left towards Cooper’s Green. This will take you back to the traffic lights. Turn left and repeat! At the end of the second lap, go straight over the traffic lights back towards Uckfield and follow your way back towards the leisure centre.

It is your responsibility to count your laps and to listen to directions given during the briefing. The marshals are not there to do this for you but to make sure you go in the right direction and ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable race. Please make sure you count your laps as it is your responsibility.

T2

Slow down before Turning Right from Downsview Crescent into the entrance of the Leisure centre, keep left you will meet on coming bikes and runners crossing and do not forget the speed bumps either! Dismount between the cones before entering transition and be on the look out as others maybe just starting out on the bike and run routes. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR HELMET UNTIL YOU HAVE SAFELY RACKED YOUR BIKE. Please wear your race number on your front so we can record your race time during the run section. Run

All turns are route marked throughout the course; it is your responsibility to follow these, with help from the marshals.

The run route is anti-clockwise. The exit of T2 is at the rear of transition area. Join the footpath to the right of the car park called Lime Tree Avenue. The water station and will be located around this area. 100m down the pathway turn left onto Hempstead Road, taking care, as you have to cross the road onto the pavement. Hempstead Road turns into Hempstead Lane and then follow the public footpath into Knight’s Meadow, then turn left into Brown’s Lane. Keep going straight along these roads until you turn left into Downsview Crescent. You will then pass the college and the entrance of the leisure centre before turning left down Lime Tree Avenue, the footpath you started the run on. Repeat twice, finally peeling off at the end of lap 2 to go towards the finish line at the side of the car-park.

Results and Prizes

Once we have collated all the results (which is time consuming, but we will endeavour to get them ready ASAP) the prizes will be given to the following categories at or near to the registration area.

Please hang around for the prize giving as if we have to mail out the prizes it puts our costs up, which we pass back onto you by putting the entry price up! It also gives you chance to identify the competition for next years race!
